THere is a difference between good singing and improvisation. Sumitra can improvise well with weird sounds but that is not singing..she doesnt have a good voice and i dont think she has good sur’s as well. Not my VOI definitely.

Sumitra is undoubtedly a good singer and a confident performer.. But her performance on 21st july, seemed mere performance, with the song being pre recorded..
I happened to watch the whole episode on tv and there was an abrupt change in the audio quality when her song was on.. her voice sounded a bit muffled quite unlike the clarity n crispness that it usually has.. The singing was “flawless” even thru’ the outstanding “performance” with all the jhatkas.. was really hard to digest..
Has anyone else not noticed this??
[It is not that obvious in the uploaded video especially with the song being split into 2 parts]
Mirande’s extraordinary performance on 20th is also raising similar doubts in my mind- though i cant comment on it since I’ve not seen the episode on tv..

Can’t understand why SVOI had to resort to such petty gimmicks if they had already decided beforehand on taking certain contestants forward..or on leaving out a few..
    All for TRP?

Also I noticed double standards on the part of the judges when they came to Abhaas n Vipul.. they kept pulling down Vipul for his age, saying he should’ve come to the contest when he was older- he couldn’t be the VOI (even though his voice didnt sound kiddish), yet, lauded Abhaas.. even though his voice is still in the transition/tranformation stage..and proclaimed him to be a front runner for the title of VOI..

Also, the unfair treatment meted out to Aditi for singing “Hari Om Hari” fabulously [totally different from her genre of classical singing], making her sing a regular song which didn’t suit her voice/scale that too totally unprepared and judging her on that- all looked pre- meditated..how come they never realised that Sumitra has been sticking to a particular genre of songs..??

The Best combo deal of voice with punch and performance. Definately the best. A few musical songs should seal the deal for VOI for her.

When will she start singing melodious numbers? All the others in the Bemisaal Baarah have proved their versatility by singing different genres of songs. She may be a performer all right, but this show definitely is looking for a “Voice” that is fresh and shows promise. We’re not looking for “Gimmicks” here… or are We?

  10. By Anonymous on Jul 27, 2007 | Reply

It is sad that voices like Ira and Aditi are not in the Bemisaal Baraah (as they dont have the so-called heroine kind of voice)? What justification do they give for this lady then.I’ve not heard anything other than “non-heroine” kind of songs form Sumitra too. This is sheer injustice.

  11. By Anonymous on Jul 27, 2007 | Reply

She can only sing one particular kind of songs. Voice quality is mediocre. She’s hyped by the judges and only performs disco wala songs. No variety. Why was she given 10/10 for Hare Rama when
it was just a dance performance show tht she did? Guess we can only blame the judges for this.

Sumitra Iyer is a real singer. She sings every song with a great spirit and making full effort to sing that song perfectly.

Further, she is selecting wonderful songs. Thus her choice too is excellent.

What I believe is she is extremely talented and having something inherent. She is really a perfect person to be on stage. Her behaviour, attitude and extraordinary expressions with unique smile always are making her a real artist whom people like most.

She is having great confidence in her as she is bold enough to choose this line though she is having a decent career in IT.

I like her speaking hindi with southern impression. I LIKE HER VERY MUCH. If someone having knowledge of her fan club pl. know me.

SHE IS A MOST DESERVED VOI.

Best wishes to her .She will be definitely sucessful.

    Vishal,
With due respect for your opinion, let me state that “VOI” here gives us hope that a new singing tallent and a voice should be recognised.I do not agree with your opinion that”behaviour, attitude and extradordinary expressions”would make a good singer. If that were the case, then Indian film industry would have lost out on great voices like”KJ yesudas, Lata Mangeshkar). Theire voice and singig is what makes them unique. When you have real talent, You dont need to resort to other gimmicks.Your talent will work for you. Also she sang so out of tune in Tonights show.

True. They are seeking a good playback singer in VOI not a stage performer.
She is so bold and knows to please men. WHY MEN ARE SO BLIND.

I agree with some of the comments here. Sumitra is using nakhraa and jhatkas to voo the audience and judges. If you listen to her “Panch Parmeshwar” comment it becomes so obvious she is soooo fake and corny. If you close your eyes and listen to her songs, and if you have listened to the original songs carefully, you would know how safely she skips the fine modulations and changes them into straight notes or uses strange sounds to show her “coolness” but actually she is very smartly covering up her weaknesses.

Seriously guys, don’t get carried away by her external gimmicks, whoever here thinks she is really good, I would suggest them to close their eyes and purely use their ears to judge her performance and you would know exactly what I am talking about. This is a singing competition, and we are looking for a versatile singer not a performer, this is not Indian Idol for God’s sake, this is far far better and of a much higher level.

Speaking of Versatility, she has chosen only item songs or peppy numbers, she is no good I am telling you.

Where voice quality is concerned Prantika has a beautiful melodious voice, although for obvious reasons she may not get that many votes. Even Arshpreet is very good. Abhilasha is very mediocre and Priyani inconsistent. And Sumitra can only sing songs of one genre.

Among the men Harshit is really fantastic as is Abhaas. I actually preferred Toshi singing slightly more classical oriented songs. The song that he sang from murder may be good but it made his voice sound very ordinary.

  21. By Ashwini on Jul 31, 2007 | Reply

If anybody has read my previous message, I would like to continue with the same and reiterate that Sumitra tries to hide her weaknesses with the help of external factors like the turban gimmick and other dance and jhatkas. Her turban stunt was so fake, she does not sound genuine at all, “Mai jo bhi gaa rahi hoon aap ke liye gaa rahi hoon”, so much nautanki, oh my god.

The only good thing in her performance was that she changed her voice for the Ila Arun part, but she clearly missed out on ALL the modulations in the Lata’s part starting from the first word “Morni”.

I cannot believe people are still falling for her. I am telling you, just close your eyes and listen to her singing, and you will agree, Lata has sung this song so well, I agree nobody can come close to her, but Sumitra hasn’t even done 5% justice to Lata’s part. If you heard the “Muh se baath nikal gayi, Baath Baaath ma” and the second “Baath Baath ma” it is so clear that Sumitra sucks big time.

Leaving her Infosys job was a not just a mistake, it was a great blunder, she should ask them if they want to take her back. She is not a playback singer material, no way… She might be good for an Orchestra at best, there she can do as much Ila Arun and Usha Uttup stunts, people will be very happy to see that and forget about it the moment they leave the hall.

Alka was so right when she had doubts about Sumitra.

  22. By Anonymous on Jul 31, 2007 | Reply

Oh man! what was that??? Sumitra is such a boot licker. When she was praising Anil Kapoor, it was so artificial and made up.

He is no doubt a fabulous actor, but it was very obvious whatever she said she did not mean a single word of it, its just a gimmick. She didn’t even let the judges or the guests comment on her performance, she straight away went on to invite Anil on the stage for the Ek Do Teen song. Cummon man, almost as if she is sooo sure she sang so well, that is total overconfidence.

Sumitra, you should stick to your item songs, the moment you choose a song like this, there might be people who get diverted due to your Ila Arun voice, but anybody who knows the song well, would agree, it becomes very clear your classical background is very weak.

You did not sing this song well at all. I am sorry I am not impressed.

  23. By Anonymous on Jul 31, 2007 | Reply

I wonder why Sumitra n Ishmeet sang solos while all others had to sing duets?? ‘coz Ishmeet was uncomfortable with a duet? or Sumitra had to be highlighted??
I must give credit to her for singing the Ila Arun part fabulously.. but she was totally flat n off-key in the lataji’s part.. which happens to be majority of the song..
Poor Mirande was totally overshadowed by Toshi (it was a male singer’s song all the way).. not fair at all..
Makes me wonder- if the contestants are allotted the songs or have a say/choice??

  24. By Anonymous on Jul 31, 2007 | Reply

Wouldn’t we all love to hear a Ghazal from Sumitra- what with her Carnatic classical background and most of her performances so far being Asha Bhonsle renditions and also the fact that she is a fan of Hariharan n has sung with him in stage shows??
Maybe a track from Ashaji’s Meraj-e-ghazal or one of Hariharan’s ghazals??
Would be a true test of her singing- with no scope for “performance” n hence distracting/wooing the male judges/audience.. ;) what say Ashwini??

  25. By Anonymous on Jul 31, 2007 | Reply

Sumitra is the next Asha Bhosle. She represents versatility in its entirety. Best wishes!

  26. By Anonymous on Jul 31, 2007 | Reply

Sumitra can definitely sing all types of songs which she has proved. Why is her versatility such a problem for some of you guys here?

SHE IS SURELY AMONG THE TOP 3 IN THE SHOW.

  27. By Ashwini on Aug 1, 2007 | Reply

Well, seriously, if Sumitra really has sung with Hariharanji I would definitely want to hear it. It need not be a ghazal or such, just any song with some semi-classical part to it would be enough to do “Doodh ka doodh and pani ka pani” for her. Look at Priyani, although she was criticized by Alkaji, in hindsight if u see, she always chose songs that had classical modulations, that’s why Alkaji could see her weaknesses, if at all. Priyani wasn’t trying to be smart and hiding her imperfections behind a “Hoo Haaa” song.

Even Mirande got away with songs like Shakalaka baby and Gela Gela, which might be good to listen to, but these songs hardly show a singer’s talent. At high notes Mirande literally shrieks. And this time all she did was Ramta jogi ramta jogi that’s it.

But the judges are getting carried away by this “performance thing” while in the same breath they keep saying, we are looking for a play”back” singer. That’s weird.

And again, if Sumitra can sing a ghazal, she should bring it on, I have nothing against her personally, only trying to be fair, if she really does a good job this time, I would be the first to appreciate.

  29. By Anonymous on Aug 2, 2007 | Reply

Thats exactly her selling point. With her beauty and adayein she tries to voo the audience and everybody else but she lacks talent. She can only sing songs that have little classical twists and turns and wherever they do exist she sings them flat. Pretty soon the audience are going to notice this and only the worthy will win which is definitely not her.

  30. By Anonymous on Aug 2, 2007 | Reply

I felt sumitra’s talk at Anil kapoor’s show ridiculous what was that “aaphi ke liye gaa rahi hu”…
Her looks and jhatkas are her only selling points !!!!!!!!

I was so impressed by Sumitra when she sang the first song…..But after that the ‘Mast’ and other songs where she shrieked, left me shocked! I empathise with Alka Yagnik who wanted to hear Sumitra again. And whats this with all the male judges going ga-ga over her. I know that Southern beauties appeal to many Northies (Hema,Sridevi,Vyjayanthimala), but please, not for a singing competition.Abhilasha is a much better singer…..I would like to hear Sumitra sing a melodious song. R u hearing Sumitra?

  33. By Anonymous on Aug 3, 2007 | Reply

Sumitra initially came across as a very decent cultured highly qualified engineer, and that added to her charm. But her comments like ‘Anilji, yeh sirf aapkeliye hai’ and all her screeching songs have crashed all my opinions about her. First impressions are certainly not the best impressions!

  34. By Deepak on Aug 3, 2007 | Reply

Sumitra I follow the Show and would like to give you advice. Try singing some soft melodious numbers too. This way you would be accpeted as a versatile singer. No doubt u are a fantastic performer, but just get that versatility and thats it.

Would prefer if u could sing “Bol na halke halke” from Jhoom barabar Jhoom. Sing it as a duet and u would be a hit.

    Cheers

Behaviour, attitude and extraordinary expressions with unique smile always are making her a real artist whom people like most.-

Some readers & anonymous persons should take a.m. qualities positively in a singer. She does not do any nakhara on stage. It is her talent that she can sing any song beautifuly.

Look has not got any concern with a.m. qualities in a singer. These qualities can be aditionally in a singer and most of the audience like a confident singer and that is why such types of singer get maximum votes.

What Yesudas and Lata Mangeshkar today are after a career of many years. They were not hit from their early begining. Their was a different time in India.

Sumitra Iyers does not do any bad looking or ghatiya latka, zatka on stage. She does what Sunidhi,Asha Bhonsle and other good female singer do on satge.

SUMITRA IS REALLY A GREAT SINGER COMMING FROM A CULTURED FAMILY.

    Best Luck to her.

  36. By Ashwini on Aug 4, 2007 | Reply

Vishal, with all due respect to your opinion, there is nothing wrong with latka jhatkas when? when the singing is impeccable, when the singing is flawless. One cannot compromise on singing and give more weightage to external appearance or stage confidence or whatever you call it.

Let her prove her mettle first as a singer. Sunidhi Chauhan also came through a talent hunt, I still remember her singing as a kid. She was only focussed on her singing. Now once she has proved her talent, everybody knows how beautifully she sings both soft and peppy songs, now she does stage performances and does perform like a rock star.

Sumitra is nowhere close to Asha Bhosale or Sunidhi, she has to prove her singing talent first, thats what everybody is looking to see in her, she has ALL the time in the world to come out as a “performer”, just let her prove her singing talent that’s all people are expecting of her.

But it is very clear, all her so called “doing what Asha Bhosale and Sunidhi do” is for covering up her singing weaknesses which is not acceptable. If she really wants to do what Asha Bhosale and Sunidhi do, why isnt she singing well? why is she diverting people’s attention to things outside of music or singing? I think we all know why. Coz she sucks!

  37. By Anonymous on Aug 4, 2007 | Reply

Vishal… behavior, attitude, extraoridinary expressions, are not qualities of a good singer. These are qualities of a nautankiwala or you may call it an actor to sound politically correct. You almost answered everybody’s question with your comment. You said, “These qualities can be aditionally in a singer and most of the audience like a confident singer and that is why such types of singer get maximum votes.” Thats exactly what we r all saying. These are only additional factors not the main factors. And what does additional mean? It means she sings very well and she ADDITIONALLY has these qualities. But is that true?… Guess what? A big fat NOOOO!!!

So these are not her ADDITIONAL qualities but her ONLY qualities.

I liked her both songs coz song-wise she sang well, and I thought she did enough justice to both songs. But like someone has pointed out she hasn’t sung songs that show her classical singing abilities. It need not be a heavy classical song, but if she is Asha Bhosale of today then she should try some melodious or semi-classical songs too. But like I have mentioned I am not that much against her anymore like I was.

Yesterday Sumitra’s performance was just mind blowing. No doubt she is best female singer in Voice of India. I agree that other female singers are improving a lot and now they are really performing good. But Sumitra has set a level where people (including judges) expect a lot from her performance. The moment she doesn’t cross the ceiling (Even if her performance is better that others) judges get disappointed. Bad part is judges are comparing her performance with her own old performances, they are not comparing with others and ….
Keep it up Sumitra. I know you will do it.

What??? Her performance was mind blowing??? hahaha. Please… she can’t even sing small modulations, she sings them flat as always. In the “Chahe na chahe zamana” part the “NAA” of zamana, has a small modulation which shouldnt be too hard for a singer who is a contestant in such a big talent hunt. But she couldnt even sing THAT right. Cummon guys, even her voice is not all that playback singer material, she is just average.

I so agree with Ashwini on her comments.

Again song from night club scenario. She is not a VOI for sure. She doesn’t have ability to sing songs from alka ji’s collection nor lata ji’s. She will get assignments for item songs.

Sumi’s performance yesterday was her best till date.. easy slow song, not too many variations unlike that chosen by other contestants. but she did do justice to it- without any latkas-jhatkas… i was pleasantly surprised and cud actually enjoy the singing – for a change !!!
Sonu’s comments were also “just right”.. no over inflation anywhere in yesterday’s episode.. such a relief!!

Ashwini..& Some Anonymous are describing their views here as If They are the legend personalities of music world and They have the right to criticise any singer badly and in very cheap manner. They are showing their cheap character on net in Fact.

People here are for posting positive
comments for any singer..not only Sumitra..

But these people are such negative personalities.

They are writing bakwas things. In fact They are very much inferior.

Sumitra has sung both songs so well this time. Both the “Paheli hai yeh Zindagani” song and the “Dhoka Dhoka” song, she has done very good justice.

Very clever move Sumitra! Not many people are going to realize this. But I cannot believe on such a big platform, such cheap tactics have been played over and over and over.

Sumitra has done it again, or maybe I should say Jatin and Aadesh have acted very smart again. They know her weaknesses just like most of us here do. They are choosing all safe songs, like “Paheli hai yeh zindagani” and “Dhoka”.

Sonu Nigam said, he was glad that she did not add “gayaki” into the song to make it too classical or to show off her singing abilities. Little does he know that she would never make that mistake, coz she is not capable of doing those things.

Cummon Sumitra, is that the best you can come up with? Singing an Alisha song? and singing Paheli?

Anyway, smart move I should say. But as far as the song goes, you have sung them very well. Your voice suits such songs but I was expecting some songs that had modulations to prove your singing abilities. I hope to see something o that sort in the coming week.

If you again sing a safe song, it would be very obvious you are incapable of singing semi classical type songs and that such songs are too much for you.

Let’s hope you accept the challenge and prove me wrong.

looks like sumitra has now officially categorized her singing into “club songs” (item numbers) with 2 similar club songs back to back(not to forget all her previous song selections) ..Heaven save versatility!!

Ashish and Anubhav, this is a free country and we are free to voice our opinions. Secondly, if you like Sumitra that much, please do vote for her, as for the rest of us who are looking to hear some good music and singing and cannot stand “perfomers” with their fake nakhras and jhtakas, we dont care a rats’ arse what you feel. As long as Sumitra is a fake, we will voice our opinion, the day she sings genuinely, we will be the first to say so.We have nothing against her personally, but the fact that she , Aadesh and Lalit are manipulating the paying public is what is getting our goat.So while you can feast your eyes and be nice and encouraging, we who want good music, unfortunately do not have the luxury to be that forgiving.

  71. By Ashwini on Aug 21, 2007 | Reply

Very well said Pt. Harihar Shastri.

To Sumitra’s supporters it might sound like we have something against her personally. She hasn’t done anything wrong to me personally, I don’t even know her, why would I go to this extent of commenting on her so badly. It’s only because the whole Sumitra-Aadesh-Lalit team thinks we are fools, and that we don’t know whats going on.

I cannot keep quiet when such gimmicks are played on reality tv. If this is reality tv, then they should show what is real, not something that’s fake and “banavati”.

Playback singing has a new dimension today. Imperfections in one’s singing can be corrected in a recording. Punching and cutting and pasting can be done easily to replace bad spots in a song with good ones with the help of millions of retakes. If Shankar Ehsaan Loy can bring out a super hit “Kajra re” out of Alisha, other music directors may bring out even better songs out of Sumitra in the future. There is no doubt in it. But then what is the whole purpose of this big banner and this huge singing contest??? Are we not looking for people with years of riyaz and flowing vocal chords anymore???

Panditji,I am very much disappointed to get such type of view from you.

It is ok India is a democratic country and any one can express feelings ..But That does not mean One should use ugly words for a particular person always.

That is quite shameless and should not be tolerable.

In fact ,I once again repeat that Ashwini is a negative personality..
    I don’t consider Judges.

    Quite bad..quite shameful..you too are joining Ashwini…

You should not behave like this..

    Dear Anubhavji,
    Thank you for writing in.
Even if I were to change the tone and tenor of my comments, what I feel and believe in would not change.
What is bad is bad, no point in getting emotional about it.So if you felt hurt, I do empathize with you, but for somebody like me who is a lifelong student of music, you can well understand what I go through when I see “packaging” being passed of as talent.
I (and also Ashwini, I think), do not have anything against Sumitra personally. In fact I do hope that she is reading this blog and takes this challenge up and turns out a great performance. If indeed she can do that, do remember to come back to this blog and read my comments then!I do hope she and other singers too can resort to pure unadulterated singing devoid of unwanted showmanship and the need for their mentors to so blatantly root for them. Finally true talent speaks for itself.
So rest assured there is no bias!!
    Happy listening!

Sumitra, please for once, sing one song, soft, melodious, semi classical type or gazhal kind, if you are reading these blogs, you know exactly what type of songs we are talking about (whisper… the ones you have been avoiding since day 1)… aaahhh now you got it. Yes, sing one of those kinds, sing it well, do enough justice to it, so we who criticize you today have something good to say about you. Please, for our sake. Do it!

I think Sumitra did a great job on Bidi, it was mid blowing. Jiya Jale was ok ok, nothing special. It looked like she wasn’t well, so maybe we should give her some credit. I glad she attempted Jiya Jale, and I am looking forward to similar songs in the future and hope she comes out much much better. All the best Sumitra.

  83. By Pt.Harihar Shastri on Aug 27, 2007 | Reply

I may perhaps be sounding like a wet blanket, but am still far from being impressed. This is the time that the leaders start creating a distance between themselves and the others and that is exactly what Priyani, Toshi and Abhaas are doing.
So all fans of Sumitra, Venkatji and Anubhavji, sorry, still a long way to go!!

  84. By Tru on Aug 27, 2007 | Reply

I personally didnt enjoy “Beedi jalaile” that much.. Sumi’s voice sounded very strained (possibly a bad throat day?) [have heard youngsters like Pawani and Sanchita singing it much better in Saregamapa Li'l champs]
Jiya Jale was so so.. got a meagre glimpse of her classical training at the very end of the song.. (but anyone who has studied Carnatic classical wud know how hard it is to get it out of one’s system and one’s voice.. which is not seen in this case.. strangely !!!!)
On the whole, Sumi’s last 2 performances were among her better ones till now..but I still wouldn’t compare her with better, more melodious and much younger singers like Abhas/ Abhilasha/ Priyani..
But still wud hope that she sticks to melodious songs rather than her usual Club songs (in the interest of the contest and us audience)

  85. By Sumitro on Aug 27, 2007 | Reply

I seriously doubt that Sumitra will ever be able to sing a soft melodious song soothingly in this contest.

Remember, how strained and superficial her singing was when she sang ‘Wada Raha Sanam’? It was perhaps her first and only attempt at this kind of a song.

I think, her ‘versatility quotient’ is the least among all the competitors of VOI; though, she scores pretty highly in my book when she is in her comfort zone — that is, club songs and so called ‘item songs’.

  86. By Ashwini on Aug 27, 2007 | Reply

I actually agree with Sumitro, I liked her few performances when she was in her comfort zone, but the moment she moves out of it, it’s very ordinary mediocre singing.

I know some people might find this odd coz I had been against her most of the times, but maybe we are expecting too much from her, maybe we should let her be herself, some people have their own genres that they can be best at. I would still maintain that she is not playback singer material, but at least before she leaves the show she should get a chance to show her best. That way whether she gets any offers in the future or not, at least she should be liked by people while the show is still on.

Then she can again go back to IT rather than struggling in the rat race of singing bollywood songs for the rest of her life. That’s just my opinion.

  87. By Tru on Aug 28, 2007 | Reply

Sumi is fairly good in her genre of singing.. not impressive in all the others, BUT.. exceptionally good and outstanding IN NONE..She does’nt have a great voice at all.. (all the judges wud agree on this I’m sure)
She is good for stage shows and i wish she wud stick to that in future as she has been in the past.. Not playback singing material for sure and certainly not suited to be the VOI..
But looking at her fan following and vote bank, doesnt look like she’ll be out of the contest anywhere in the near future (if public votes mean anything in the show).. Which means she’ll get a full chance to showcase all her “talent”

  88. By Pt.Harihar Shastri on Aug 29, 2007 | Reply

What vote bank and what votes? Is there any accountability on the voting and the vote counting process? Is there an audit of the votes by an independent credible third party? So , I think we are all kind of naive if we believe that we are seeing the will of the people here.
Therefore contestants will be in the show till the producer and the judges say so, so now you know till when you will see Sumitraji around!

P.S: I could not agree more with the comments of Ashwiniji and friend Tru, the IT industry’s loss has definitely not been the music industry’s gain!

  89. By Sudhir on Aug 29, 2007 | Reply

How many of the people commenting here have been on stage? Music Industry is one big money spinnng industry. Not necessary that only genuinely talented dominate the industry. All levels of singers are part of this industry. Singer A may appeal to one class of listeners while Singer B may appeal to another class of listeners. So this is what I think is happening – People appealed by Class A are commenting on the Other Class & viceversa. Personally I think all the participants including some who were eliminated are a very talented lot and shud be encouraged to improve.

  90. By venkat on Aug 29, 2007 | Reply

this is a blog.this is meant for commenting.not for getting on stage and singing

  91. By Tru on Aug 30, 2007 | Reply

Thats right Shastriji.. no accountability or transparency whatsoever.. But do you have any idea what kind of training (if any) the contestants undergo under their respective “mentors”?.. Lalit and Aadesh never fail to state that their team members have “followed the instructions”. Also, who chooses the songs each contestant sings.. do the contestants themselves have any say in the song selection?

  92. By Pt.Harihar Shastri on Aug 30, 2007 | Reply

    Dear Truji,
Based on my experience in the industry and what I have seen of such shows, the mentors choose by and large the songs that the contestants sing , the basis being that the “know” which song choices suit which participant the best. The training mainly consists of voice modulation and pitch modulation.
At this level the contestants have by and large a limited say , not because of anything else, but I think they just get awed and intimidated by their so called “mentors”. Also all the participants know that their ultimate goal is to sing in the movies and so are scared of antagonizing veterans of the industry, cos people like Aadesh, Lalit never forgive or forget a slight, whether imagined or real, so why rock the boat!
