Time and time again, Toshi and Abhas have proved to be THE BEST in this competition. Quite a few comments about the 24th Aug show.
    a) Too early for a singer of Sunidhi Chauhans stature to be called as a judge.
    b) Her comments on Toshi’s Saaqui performance are totally uncalled for. This is the problem most of us do. I do agree that Toshi sometimes gets carried away with his performance and sometimes does have a “check me out” tone in his song. Rightly so. So what if he has that? His performance is never below the mark. Arrogance and cockiness are absolutely fine if the person is talented. And people get so disturbed by it coz there is so much of mediocrity and we all are so used to it. Toshi and Abhas have obviously turned into super confident mortals (if you compare from the audition days). But they have earned it themselves. They are far more superior compared to other vocalists; and its the judges/spl-guest comments/votes etc that gave them the confidence. So what if they display some arrogance. Am sure thats exactly what Sunidhi meant by “controlled” performance.
    c) Ishmeet sounded very good. Again, I dont see him becoming VOI coz his voice is too sweet (and certainly cant sing classical stuff).

About 25th Aug show, Abhaas was mind blowing. He is a genius. The whole “Rakhi” crap was ridiculous ( i mean the show is heading more towards commercialism).

I dont agree with showing Harshit’s blind grandmother and her sentiments on the show. No disrespect meant to anyone. We all have grandmothers who would shower loadsa affection on all of us. Showing something like that does affect the viewer and too many factors other than singing begin to come into play. Very bad.

Why on earth is Gaj inviting guests who look like barbie dolls (preeti jhangiani) to the show? All 3 judges pass comments as ordinary people with no musical knowledge whatsoever. This is mighty ridiculous. If the intention is to influence the voter thru the comments, then get a musically sound person and not some musically dumb people.

    Gaj is really losing it.

He has to remember that he doesnt have to reach out to everyone (although his business plan might not be just that). Indian idol is meant just for the common people who have no knowledge of any music. Like someone rightly mentioned, that show is meant to be seen and not be heard. How many people watch Golf on ESPN or WWF? The percentage is quite low. They are not airing the show so that one billion people watch it. So its high time Gaj gets his fundas right.

Sumitra was Ok. Ishmeet was Ok. Harshit – one contestant I would like to takl about. This guy is clearly over-rated. Certainly cant sing classical stuff. Obviously can sing in “sur” (but all the contestat do sing in “sur”…thankfully this is not like Indian Idol where final 10-12 contestants still manage to deliver some below average performances). Yesterdays “Ghanana Ghan” was a proof of that. Undoubtedly he hit all the high notes with great finesse. But obviously it wasnt a great performance. Didnt carry the effect that song is capable of creating. A R Rehman’s wodnerful composition wasted. It is a very powerful song and could have given much greater impact had Abhaas or Toshi sung it. This guy shud stick to Kumar Sanu’s songs and it does suit him well. But then again, we are not here to find a Kumar Sanu replacement.

About Irfan. He ventured a Shankar Mahadevan’s song difficult song and did a good job of it. Again, when a masterpiece is being attempted, comparisons with the original are but inevitable. Didnt create the effect but it was not bad.

When I talk about creating the effect, listen to Abhaas singing “Nain lad gayi hai” (and his vote appeal was quite cute and confident). Wow! What a rendition. Would rate it better than Toshis performance. League apart. Outstanding. Am simply speechless.

This voting system MUST go. For all you know, if there are enuf enthusiast musically not-so sound viewers from Abhilasha’s town pumping in SMS one after the other, she could very well be the Voice of India (esp with support from the fat cheeked Alka).

Very clearly, Gaj (whom I have great respect for) is falling for the “established formula in the market that works” trap. He didnt need to conform to the “voting” system. The selection/elimination process of final 12 could have been far more involved with many specialist judges coming to the fore. As a matter of fact, the quality of the show would have gone up and so would have been the TRPs.

Am so scared that Toshi and Abhaas might just be voted out coz the other contestants might get too many votes (not for their musical renditions but for a fact that belong to a particular region or look good or whatever).

The Ludhianawala (Ishmeet) should have been out of this contest before the Ludhianawali (Ashpreet). No one could appreciate the unique heart-touching quality of Ashpreet’s voice—it’s a shame!
The most overrated singers of SVOI are —Ishmeet and Harsheet.

Hi All.Frankly i think these are actual ratings at the moment
    For Girls
    1. abhilasha
    2. priyani
    3. ashpreet
    4. mirande
    5. sumitra

ashpreet shud not have got eliminated.she must have been at the top 6 atleast.definetly better than sumitra, mirande, ishmeet & irfan.

comments on each of the one

    1. abhilasha- excellent voice quality.most pakka sur.but the girl has a little stage fear & lacks confidence.& voice may not match upto for a very high scale or picth. but her low & high notes are absolutely clear.

    2. priyani – excellent singer.sometimes voice a little harsh & on the high scale.but among the girls she has a better chance than others.

sumitra & mirande are not versatile & suited for every type of song.
mirande better than sumitra overall.that soniya ve mahiya ve song.mind blowing perforamance.

so from girls it has to be either abhilasha or priyani at the top of Voice of India

    Now coming to Guys –

    my ratings wud be

    1.toshi
    2.harshit
    3.abhas
    4.irfan
    5.ishmeet

    1. toshi- fantastic singer.gud foundations.sunidhi said it rite that sometimes he shud control his harkat(i meant the singing harkat).

2.harshit – excellent singer.pakka sur & gud voice.voice not completely suited for the youth.best voice quality among the guys.sometimes its a little kishore kumar or kumar sanu types.so cannot completly excel for the current generation songs & composers.

3.abhas- amazing confidence.but sometimes does a little too much.some times the clarity of words is not there when he sings.low notes shud be much more clear when he comes from a high note to a low note.

    4. irfan – i appreciate this guys hard work & effort.not a great voice quality.sometimes voice & gala seems strained.but still manages to pull out a lovely performance.

5.ishmeet- very sweet voice & stable performance.but cannot term as charismatic to make it to the top

so in guys it must be toshi, harshit or abhas.

So overall at the top it must be abhilasha, priyani, toshi, harshit or abhaas.

    thats it from me guys

Dear Toshi, Abhas & Irfan, you are the gem of all. I am doubt whether you gonna win this competetion or not because of this unfair voting and partial judges, they are promoting and marketing Harsheet who sings with no quality. why the hell Adash and Pandit comes on the stage whenever he sings, what is the need to show his grandma, as Sunil said everyone has grand parents and emotions, this is a trick to get public sympathy, this is not fair and not going to work. people are not stupid they can understand the reality. Star VOI is a highly rated program and getting more and more popular around the globe, gajji should take a serious note to all the unfair happennings and dramas, we in New Zealand very desperately waits for saturday midnight to watch this programme, and we enjoy each and every moment of TOshi, Abhas and Irfan singing. Guys no matter you wins or not but you are the champions.
we all love you from Auckland

one handred % i endorse the views of RAHI from auckland.they ary acting like a charity organisation. If the judicial team wants to give them sympathy, let them give by offering him chance out side. The programme should not beg for sympathy on stage like that.now ,after the present episode,I feel irfan will go ahead of sumithra .though, sunidhi chouhan admired her,i think PRIYANI WAS BEST ON SATURDAY.SO WHAT IF AABHAS SANG LITTLE EXTRA,HE WAS FULL OF CONFIDENCE.I also agree with abhijeets comment on toshi,he should not exert beyond a limit.

The Ludhianawala (Ishmeet) should have been out of VOI before the Ludhianawali (Arshpreet). No one could appreciate the unique heart-touching quality of Ashpreet’s voice—it’s a shame!
The most overrated singers of this contest are —Ishmeet and Harshit.
Aadesh, Lalit and Jatin go over the top in praising Harshit and mislead the public. The same applies to Abhijeet when it comes to Ishmeet.

Who is this aadesh to tell about ABHILASHA.Probably,he thaught, she would be eliminated.funny guy.

  16. By venkat on Aug 26, 2007 | Reply

INSTESD OF ASHPREET,ISHMEET SHOULD HAVE GOT OUT.THIS IS NOT GOOD VOTING.

  17. By Ali on Aug 26, 2007 | Reply

    For me:
    1) Toshi
    2) Abhas
    3) Priyani

the rest are also good, however someone has to go which is the format of the program.
I must add here that Arvind (who got eliminated before the last 12 round) should be in the last 12) and his voice is too good for playback singing. Its shocking he’s not in last 12.

I must be watching this show from Venus, but I think Toshi is the most over rated and the most immature singer of all. He makes mistakes at many places, I thought his brother was lot better.

  19. By Ashwini on Aug 27, 2007 | Reply

Losing Arshpreet is a great loss. A voice like hers has been missing from indian cinema for a long time and I really hope she doesn’t go unnoticed by the music directors of today’s bollywood.

Abhas ke to kya kehne! Usko to buss suntay jao suntay jao. You just can’t have enough of him. I hope he stays till the end of the show so we can get to hear more and more of his songs.

I like Harshit’s singing but I also agree that he gets too inspired by the original singers voice and tries to adapt himself to it. There is no need to do that, I know if he sings in his original voice he would be sing the songs equally well, coz he is really a good singer.

Irfan also rocks the stage, I like his singing.

Toshi is a complicated person. He has a strong classical base and hats why probably falls to temptations of singing simple songs also in a classical way. Like Sonu and Sunidhi rightly pointed out, he should not change the mood of the song with more gayaki that necessary for the song.

This reminds me of Ashaji’s Umrao Jaan (original) songs. Khayyam had asked her to sing them in less classical way in order to keep the simplicity and the innocence of the songs intact and as mentioned by her in an interview, she had had a hard time controlling her temptations of singing them in a more classical way. Maybe Toshi should take a note of this.

Priyani has improved tremendously and its fun listening to her.

Abhilasha is not using her potential fully. She should get over her stage fear and focus on her singing. She is a fabulous singer, I just hope she stays long enough to show the fire inside her and deliver rocking performances.

Mirande, Sumitra and Ishmeet should work harder and I wish them all the best.

Hariji and Ashwiniji, well analyzed and written.By the way, I just happened to see SRGMP rerun on Sunday, there is a singer there called Sumedha (i hope I have her name correct), she is good, I can see she has a future in the industry.Anyways back to VOI, Toshi and Priyani are the clear frontrunners amongst their respective colleagues, with Abhaas and Abhilasha having the potential to rock their apple cart !!
Lastly, is there a criteria for choosing celebrity judges? They either be celebrities or goos judges, Saturday’s choices were neither!

  21. By Tru on Aug 27, 2007 | Reply

Shastriji,u r right about Sumedha.. very sweet, melodious voice.. but underrated as usual.. BTW have u heard Raja Hassan? Comparable to Toshi- same genre..but a shade or 2 better (voice still sounds fresh and not under strain as compared to that of Toshi nowadays)..same style of complicating simple songs though..
About celebrity judges, all these 3 talent hunt shows have become a platform for the publicity of new films pre-release.. I fail to see any connection whatsoever with music(or talent for that matter)

  22. By Pt.Harihar Shastri on Aug 27, 2007 | Reply

Unfortunately have not heard Raja Hassan, but since you speak so highly of him, will do so right away, will get the studio to send across the tapes .
You are right on the pre-release publicity of films. The temptation is so high to squeeze every rupee out of the show as is possible, you will be amazed at all the avenues that contribute to the revenue here. The problem though is not how much money you can earn out of innovation, in my opinion that is a good thing, cos that is what all business are all about “to make money for all stakeholders , remember Michael Porter :-) ), the problem arises when your need to make money is so high that it blinds you to your core offering and that suffers, in this case the quality of the show. This is a standard problem in Indian television. As long as the public laps it up, who cares!

Toshi we love to see you in Auckland, you are the best singing sensation I have every seen and enjoyed. lots of love and blessings from Auckland. Alkaji, Abhijeetda, and Mr. Pandit(senoir) are the best judges, supports good singing and talent.
In our opinion top four will be Toshi, Abhas, Priyani & Irfan. most of the rest doesn`t deserve a place in the top 12.
Gajji, Alkaji, Abhijitda, Mr Pandit and guys we all love you from a beautiful Auckland

    Truji,
Thank you, I just heard Raja Hassan, the studio was kind enough to send me a recording. He is as you rightly said in the same genre as Toshi and again both have a tendency at times to get overtly complex, but I think that is where a good mentor/guruji will help.
Thank you so very much for the links and for your insights.
    Warmest ,

I appeal to all to vote consciously in Star VOI, considering the quality of singing only and not be influenced by any other factors like regionalism etc.
Wrong voting will deprive a true, genuine and deserving singer to become Voice of India. The latest casualty is Toshi, who is the best singer. If the public continues to vote like this, then we will have people like Ishmeet or Mirande becoming VOI which is not good for the world of music.
