Ishmeet Singh is the winner of Amul Star Voice of India

The much-awaited verdict of Star’s Voice of India is finally out!

Ishmeet Singh has been crowned Star’s Voice of India. [ Watch Videos of Grand Finale here]

The grand finale, which was held in Mumbai’s Andheri Sports Complex on Saturday evening, saw thousands of fans cheering the participants. Ishmeet, who hails from Ludhiana, beat Harshit Saxena from Lucknow in the closely contested final.

The event, hosted by singer Shaan, had quite a few hi-profile guests including actress Madhuri Dixit [Images] and legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar .Madhuri entertained the audience and participants alike by singing a couple of lines of a song from her upcoming movie Aaja Nachle.

Lata Mangeshkar gave her blessings to the two finalists and wished them luck for their future endeavours.

    Thanks to a heavily castiest society we have yet another case of a sub standard talent ishmeet becoming the so called voice of india.. A question to ponder whether can we ever rise above the petty concerns like lingo or a turban or a region and vote for a genuine talent.we all know the states like w bengal, punjab , maharashtra are extremely region centric and at times the loyalty to state or religion overtakes all other aspects. This being only a singing contest.. may not matter much but it shows a larger malaise afflicting the society..

    I just want to say that my favourite in this compeition was Toshi and I am a Sikh. However since Toshi was eliminated quite early on, I turned my support to who I thought was second best which was Ishmeet not because he is a fellow sikh. For the muslims suchs as zainab and zahra – you guys are just sore losers.

    First of all, Congrats! to Ishmeet and all of his fans.

    Zahra and other people like her should not be jealous of him. It’s Ishmeet’s talent and luck, shich have come together, to make him the VOI. These people should not use the words like this. They should mind their language. Ishmeet has not done anything wrong with anybody. So, please try be happy with others, leaving behind the communal or religious differences.

    If you people think, it’s a communal orreligious thing then for your kind information, population of sikhs or punjabis is not more than the rest of India and other religions.

    So, lets try to learn to celebrate the success of others. It will give us more happiness.

    PLEASE RENAME THIS REALITY SHOW TO “STAR VOICE OF PUNJAB”.

    There is a serious contradiction in your own format. U want it to be a voice of India…..but all the time the person who is leading from all regions gets kicked out Coz of one state which is voting only for a guy who can not even sing properly. PLEASE RENAME IT TO “STAR VOICE OF PUNJAB”

    VOI is not the Voice of Punjab as Ishmeet did receive plenty of votes from all over India as votes from Punjab alone could not have made him the winner, so accept the truth and discard the Shit that you wanna keep.

    I feel sorry that Dadi ma has been made a scape goat by HARshit for his selfish agenda.

    The next person to write anything nasty on Ishmeet will only have reflection of his/her inability to correct their inferiority complex.Sore loosers, go get a life or shall I aptly put take your Shit back, it stinks…

    I agree with comments many made here. To say that this was the most manipulated show would be an understatement. The show promotes mediocrity over superior performance is self-evident. But I am mystified at the lack of courage any of the judges had (except Lalit on occasions). When Sanjaya was repeatedly evading elimation in American Idol, Simon Cowell was all over trying to nip the problem of “block voting” in the bud. Unfortunately, we saw no such effort from our judges. Either they lacked the courage to stand-up to the scourge of “block voting”, or they were intellectually lazy. Music had already lost with Abhaas, Irfan & Toshi’s elimination – today was the formal burial.
    I am sorry I wasted 7 months to see this joke of a final.

    The Star Voice Of India programme is the greatest farce of the century and the judges’ voice was ineffective due to the element of public vote which was a total farce. The result is no way related to merit and voice quality.
    The result is only based on extraneous and regional considerations except merit and quality.

    I do not agree with Kamal. Majority of Indians have not voted for Ishmeet. In fact, Harshit was leading in 3 out of 4 zones. Ishmeet won only due to regional considerations i.e. from North zone (Punjab). Ishmeet’s victory only means that he got more votes from Punjab than Harshit got from UP. This is no indication of merit. Besides, it is Abhas who is the true voice of India as he is the choice of the judges.

    Irfan and Harsheet were standing and waiting for their Home state counting,

    Irfan got more votes from All over india than Harsheet. Harsheet escaped on getting more votes from UP than Irfan’s AP .

    Now Ishmeet got more votes from Punjab than Harsheets UP.

    And for you info North india includes j&k, haryana, himachal, punjab, part of up, and not just punjab.

    By Ishmeet’s victory, one thing has been proved, if sikhs remain united they can achieve the impossible.I will also like to thank the thousands of secular Hindu brothers who voted for Ishmeet.

    Ishmeet’s victory is a tight slap on the face of Abhijeet who said ishmeet dint deserve to be in top 12. That Abhijeet must hv sensed Ishmeet’s victory thats why he skipped the finals function.
    The faces of Aadesh shrivastava and Jatin-lalit were also worth seeing.

    In the final episode, Ishmeet sang the Sawariya song so well. He showed his class. Even Madhuri Dixit was spell bound after this song.After hearing this song everybody must hv understood why Ishmeet became Voice of India, because he truly deserved it.
    After all the humiliation he faced for last 3 months at the hands of VOI judges, this was the best way to slap these shameless/racist judges on their faces.

    Man oh man…Ishmeet’s win sure is causing alot of conterversy. I just want to say that most of ppl on this blog are against Ishmeet’s winning because the winning votes came from the North and got the overall lead despite having Harshit lead in the East, West, and South. It may be true…well i’m pretty sure that majority of the punjab voted for Ishmeet and you could say this because of his religious views which most ppl are saying but the same arguement could be used to make the case for Harshit winning in the east,south,and west because majority of the population in those regions is Hindus and that’s why they would decide to vote for Harshit…I hope that everone sees that we shouldn’t focus on justifying why it’s so because of the religios views and just stick with what it is…Majority of the ppl in INDIA voted for Ishmeet and that’s why he won period.
    I personally think Ishmeet won because of Abhijeet’s trashing of Ishmeet publicly and I believe that no INDIAN could stand seeing a mentor trash his own student infront of national TV. But I do have to say Ishmeet definitely proved his worth in the last 3 weeks, his singing was definitely amazing!…side note if I was Abhijeet I’d be lucky if don’t get booed off stage on his upcoming tour for his hideous character

    BUT THE TRUTH CANNOT BE CHANGED AND THAT IS ISHMEET WAS NOT THE BEST SINGER BY FAR IN THE CONTEST. ok so even beides the muslims toshi n irfan what about abhaas? harshit? Priyani? abhlisha? arshpreet? what about all those memoralbe perfomrances?

    it was sad to see the judges’ hostility towrds ishmeet but w/o any bias or offence he didnt deserve to win the contest compared to all other top 12 singers. He is a pretty average singer and that is not to say i hate him because i dont even know him. i’m happy for him cuz his dream came true but it is shocking, unfair n unjust for all those great singing talents.

    This is like Kelly Clarkson losing to sanjaya malakar on Amercian Idol. And yes, sanjaya was a great guy too, with great marketablity,the whole show is scripted and stupidly hyped up drama.with results all messed up.

    But it was a singing contest and public voting has resulted in an incorrect decision. Atleast Harhsit’s win in the end would’ve made some sense. Ishmeet’s victory is undeserved.he is a good singer, but in a competion ou’ve got to be the best and sorry but even his voters no matter how much they love and support him should know in their hearts that he’s good but not the best in any way.

    if even abhaas n harshit won or one of the grils i wouldve been as happy cuz they r deserving. And whther its a sikh,hindu,muslim,christian the singing is what matters most plz try to accept that. no regionalism or sympathy can substitute pure talent.

    Even after hearing the Sawariya song that Ishmeet sang, you r saying he is not the best singer.
    Ishmeet is the best, his class of singing stands apart. That is the reason why his supporters r so crazy about him. His innocence & sweet voice has won him die-hard supporters, which other singers in the contest dint have.
    Even arshpreet was frm punjab, why did she fail to get votes. The reason is that she lacked qualities that Ishmeet possesses.

    Population of Punjab is 2 crore and that of UP is 16 crore.

    Ishmeet’s victory is a tight slap on the face of shameless & biased Aadesh Shrivastava who was shamelessly asking for votes with folded hands for harshit in the Banaras episode.
    Harshit was treated so well in Ludhiana, where as Ishmeet was insulted in Banaras to demoralise him. This must hv been done most probably on the directions of Aadesh Shrivastava.
    People have slapped aadesh shrivastava on his face by voting for Ishmeet.

    It’s always nice to post comments in this great blog. Always I mentioned about this blog as like as my own family. And all the bloggers are just like my family members. Despite all our disagrees, fights still I think this blog as my family. Last time in this blog I said that I will never gonna post again and will quit this blog. But after this final I can’t just stop my self posting here today.

    About The Result:

    Despite I am an extreme Toshi fan, I have to say that as per this final (As there was no extreme talented singers like Toshi, Irfan, Sumitra, Arshpreet), among Ishmeet & Harshit, I was eagerly wanted to see Ishmeet as SVOI and the justice fullfiled. Because I always believed that, only Ihmeet’s win can spoil the dirty & nasty games & plans of stupid Gajj & the 5 stupid judges. I am very much glad that it happened. And the reasons are:

    1. Despite not a learner Ishmeet has a sweet and nice voice. On the other hand with much knowledge in music Harshit the Dady Cry baby is basically a copy cat singer but has some powers in his voice. And it’s always better to see a singer of his owns than a copy cat one.

    2. If you observe the last 3 episodes, then it will be crystal clear to you that, Ishmeets performances were much better than Harshit.

    3. Ishmeet never received any favorisms or asked for that from the judges (Except sometimes from Abhijeet). On the other hand, Harshit always tried to get sympathy votes by excusing blind Dadi Ma and till last moment he received favorsfrom the judges just like always.

    4. Despite Ishmeet is not so much talented singer like TOSHI, IRFAAN, SUMTRA, ARSHPREET and ABHAAS, atleast he reached to the GRAND FINALE by peoples votes. But believe me, though Harshit is a good singer (Also a copy cat singer) he reached to the Grand Finale by the mercies of stupid judges and stupid Gajj.

    Another Controversially Of Grand Finale:

    These Judges & Gajj are really biased and stupids. Look what happened at special jury award time. They have crowned Abhaas instead of Toshi which is completely intolerable. All the people were shouted for Toshi. But the stupid judges crowned abhaas. Shaan also did some drama when he mentioned that ” Some people are saying about Toshi, and some are Abhaas”. But that time I didn’t heard people shouting for Abhaas. I believe Abhaas is a talented singer but just ask yourselves, do you all believe he is better than Toshi or even better than Irfaan! This is all up to you.

    The voice of the World confirmed:

    When ever Toshi appears at Grand Finale people were shouting so much than they even shouted for the two finalists. Which completely proves that, for the great people of India Toshi is their true hero and Voice Of The World.

    Congratulation to Ishmeet to win SVOI from deep of my heart. I also congratulate all the Punjabi’s to support him so blindly and helped Ishmeet to win SVOI.

    Believe me, if there is any living example to be someones blind fan that honor only & only goes to Jatin. From beginning till end he is the only one of this blog who supported Ishmeet so desperately which I never saw among any supporters in my life before. Despite always disagrees and fights between us, I always respected his extreme supports for Ishmeet. I wanna say only one thing, Jatin’s win is bigger than Ishmeet’s win.

    But, something I wanna tell you, from the beginning of this blog you are unnecessarily after many bloggers specially after the girls and more specially after Kalyani without any reason. To tell you man, she is the first one who congratulate Ishmeet after he crowned as SVOI. And I personally believe, she wished that from deep of her heart. Not for criticizing or anything else. And on return you just mentioned her as “Snaky Viper” (For your information Viper itself is a snake) !!!!!!!!!!!!
    What I noticed here, many people said lots of things against Ishmeet but you specially choose Kalyani to attack. Why? I think you are too much jealous on Kalyani’s extreme popularity in this blog from the begining. If it is then I have only one thing to say, just go and get a big & fresh heart and learn some manners from others. And also it is you who should change.     Ishmeet’s victory has not been reported in any of the newspapers in Delhi. Infact his selction as the winner has been criticized by a programme in Aaj Tak.

    Ishmeet is not being spared even after his victory.
    Even news channels like Aaj Tak dint telecast news showing his victory, inspite of the fact that personalities like Lata Mangeshkar & Madhuri Dixit graced the occassion.
    This is the case of severe racial discrimination against sikhs in India.People just cant tolerate a sikh reaching the top.
    This is shameful, very shameful.
    This proves that even if a sikh reaches to the top by his honest and sincere efforts people are not willing to give any respect to him

    First of all, let me congratulate Ishmeet for his victory. His fans across the India also deserve a pat on their back for seeing their favourite participant through to the finals and then ultimately winning the same.

    I had left the blog on 19th November when somebody used the same display name as mine and wrote something nasty about Sikhs. I am surprised to see two messages (after victory of Ishmeet) issued with the display name as mine. They are in Punjabi and I dont know Punjabi. So I cant make out whether they are derogatory to someone or otherwise. Whatever is the case, I want to let the bloggers know that they are not mine.

    Jatin!! I saw the NEWS on Star News, Aajtak, IBN Live, and Live India about Ishmeet’s victory. Infact, I got to know about his victory from Aaj Tak only when the flash came about his victory immediately after the programme.

    The next day i.e. Sunday also there was news on Aaj Tak. Ofcourse, they were not running it for 24 hours, as other important things (may be less important than Ishmeet’s victory in your perspective) were also happening in India.

    The Indian media has totally ignored Ishmeet’s victory in VOI. No leading newspaper in Delhi, whether Times of India or Hindustan Times reported about ishmeet’s win.
    Even newschannels hv ignored the news. One leading newschannel aaj tak went to the extent of saying Ishmeet is Voice of Punjab not Voice of India.
    fter the judges, now the Indian media is humilating innocent Ishmeet. As if Ishmeet committed a crime by participating in the show.

    I think now these reality shows will write outside their offices “sikhs not allowed”. Its better to ban sikhs from participating in such contests rarther than insulting them on TV when they progress in the show.

    JATIN i never said ishmeet was bad, just tht he is not the best. yes his ‘sawariya’ performance was really good. but you have to take the overall assessment too.what about priyani’s ‘barson re megha’ or all those toshi performances like ‘teri deewani’ or ‘saiyan’… harshit’s ‘bhool bhulaiya’ and ‘tum mile’…abhaas’ wild card and farewell songs? irfan’s ‘tarap’ and ‘alvida’ ? abhiasha’s audition?sumitra’s many memorable performances? So believe me other singers have countless no. of unforgettable vocal performaces…!

    and yes he is sweet but its a singing contest. he’s good and im happy for him, just that its quite unfair for the more talneted n deserving singers, even though ishmeet is not to blame.everyone is entitled to their own opinions and their pro-careers will prove whats objectively correct. anyway CONGRATS ISHMEET and all the best to all of them.

    Battle for ishmeet is not over as yet. The media has totally ignored his victory news inspite of the fact that Lataji & Madhuri Dixit were present on the occassion. This clearly shows the racist attitide of media towards sikhs.
    The media claims to be champion of secularism, but itself turns racist when it comes to honouring a sikh.
    Because of this racist attitude of media I am still feeling sad for Ishmeet as his victory news has gone totally unreported.

    ISHMEET’S INTERVIEW: PLEASE READ IT

    You did it! You’re the winner. How does it feel?

    It’s unbelievable! A dream come true. We’ve all worked so hard to come this far. It’s great to be chosen the first Voice of India.

    What was going through your head when Lataji was about to name the winner?

    To be honest, I was lost. My head was totally blank. Then Lataji said my name and it just hit me. I couldn’t believe it. It is the most memorable moment of my life so far.

    But early on when Harshit was in the lead — a considerable lead in fact, did you think that you were going to lose?

    Yes, there was some tension. A win seemed difficult from then on, but I also knew that until the absolute total number of votes were not revealed, you couldn’t be sure about the winner.
    Also, mujhe North Zone ke logo par puraa bharosa tha. (I had complete faith in the people of the North Zone.) I knew that I had complete support from Delhi and Punjab. But even in the other zones, the difference in votes was not that much.

    How’s the atmosphere at home and within your family? What was their reaction?

    They are very proud of me and happy. Because of what I have achieved, the entire country knows my family’s name.

    Tell me a bit about your debut album.

    Harshit and I are working on an original song which is composed by Salim-Suleiman. We don’t have an official title for it yet, but it’s about dreams coming true and thanking the people responsible for them. I loved the song the instant I heard it!

    You’re the first winner hailing from a Sikh background of a reality show of this magnitude. What does that mean to you?

    You know, just before auditioning I was talking to my sister about the same thing. That people from Sikh background only get so far in these competitions. Ek ya do level ke baad hamesha nikal jaate hain. (After one or two levels, they are eliminated.)
    So as a Sikh, and a singer I wanted to try and see how far I could reach. I think my victory here can help remove the tag that Punjabi singers can only sing Punjabi songs well. I deliberately chose not to sing too many Punjabi songs in the competition; most of my performances were in Hindi.

    Do you think there are any areas in your singing that you have to work on?

    I think I can handle the high pitch quite well as most Punjabi singers do (Laughs). No, but seriously, I know that there is so much I still have to learn. I have tried to learn as much as I could from my mentors during the past six months. I will get up early in the morning tomorrow and start riyaaz for my songs with Salimji.

    How are you going to celebrate this victory?

    Aaj Guru Nanak Jayanti hain, (Today is Guru Nanak Jayanti) but I couldn’t visit a Gurudwara today because I was so busy with preparations for the contest. But first thing tomorrow, I am going to visit a Gurudwara. This is the first time I’ve not been to a Gurudwara on this auspicious day. Then I’ll spend the rest of the day with my family.

    What about your future plans? Any offers to sing?

    Yes, offers have come from Uttam Singh, as well as a Punjabi music director. I am also receiving offers for Punjabi movies. I’m now the brand ambassador of TATA Winds, plus I will be launching the Pocket Internet Surfer in December.

    Any artist in particular you’d want to perform with?

    Sunidhi Chauhan [Images]! I’m her biggest fan. I was doing a show and my chachaji introduced me to a Punjabi music director friend of his. He asked me the same question. He said he’d try and compose a soft romantic song for both of us to sing.

    What do you think of the SMS voting system? Do you think it is fair?

    I think it’s a great thing that the people get to choose their favourites. You perform, and the rest is up to the audience. Also, this is the format of the show. I have to respect that.

    What do want to say to Harshit?

    Harshit and I are friends.

    And what about your fans? What message do you have for them?

    I want to thank them from the bottom of my heart. Shukriya, it’s because of their love and support that I’ve reached this muqaam.     Shocked to see these kinds of blogs. Why can’t we people be more decent in our language? And to all those people who argued with me as to why regional voting should be stopped–hope u got the answer!!

    Its a slap on the art of singing all together, coz a guy who got the maximum no. of votes from the rest of India, could not make it in the finals, just because of regional voting. Let’s not ignore the fact that both UP & Punjab lie in the same zone.

    Just accept the truth that Ishmit has won with his own power and determination. He created some thing which no other could do. He got all the votes from every where in east,west,south and North.     I am quite surprised to see that Harshit has a lot of Pakistani supporters. What is harshit’s paki connection. In another blog also i see a lot of support coming for harshit from Pakistan.

    The bloggers who said that show is fixed and harshit would be declared as winner hv been wronged.Gajji is quite fair when it comes to counting of votes.

    But the black out of Ishmit by media is quite baffling. Small competitions of schools are reported in newspapers, but Ishmeet’s victory has been totally ignored by the majour dailies.

    I was so happy with the final. Not because I support Ishmeet, but because he was a better human being, if not a better singer, than Harshit. And after Harshit getting obvious support from the shameless mentors (and they call themselves that) Aadesh, Lalit and Jatin, I am so thrilled with the result. Harshit should learn that being a good singer is not enough. Irfan, Toshi, Abhaas, Arshpreet, Prantik – they were better singers and better people. I am happy that Harshit got exactly what a loser like him deserves.

    But now this blog seems to be hijacked by anti-peace people. I am quite disgusted by reading all the crap talk people are throwing at each other.

    Even in ur SRGMP site, people didn’t behave like this when singers from Pakistan were participating. Rather there was great admiration of the talent of both sides and Music was a true winner by bringing the people of both sides closer.

    Its really a shame people are spreading hatread here. In my view these people can’t be true Pakistanis or Indians but they are acting as agents of THOSE who dont wanna see peace between India & Pakistan. I can bet this because majority of both nations wants peace. This is evident from the fact that majority of overseas Pakistanis and Indians are very good neighbors and friends.     Just think how could Ishmit be the winner though he got only votes from Punjab,Hariyana,Delhi. However Hashit got votes from every parts every corner of India. He is the real singer also the future of of Indian Music. Ishmit cant sing Kawali,he cant sing duets as we saw with Kavita Krishnamuthy and Alkaji he is totally failure. Just think Hashit has sanged tumkya jano mohabat kya hai, Pade ghungoro,Ghaike panbanaras wala, Mitwa to ab, Hare Krishan Hare ram, Kya ehi pyar he and many more the songs are memorable for ever. Ishmit cant sing this type of song. He is not a complete singer.

    jag, I agree with you. The moral of this is that one must belief in themselves to succeed and Ishmeet just did that , so it was a Voice of India for Ishmeet not like some had insunated that it was a Voice of Punjab… sour grapes.

    The song that really touched me was the one he sang on ” Meri maa di pakia” something to that , not sure on the title but his mum and dad were so touched with that song that it was hard to control the emotions and it was the same for me..

    Now this was what we all have been saying that he sings and touches the soul, arshpreet and Harprit of SRGMPA did not get the support .

    As a Gursikh Ishmeet showed the way that one need not fashion their looks to win, singing is voice quality not aping the west and using half baked naked dancers to promote their cds..

    Lata ji did not do that and she is the voice of india…

    SVOI went downhill

    We are not going to watch SVOI again unless it makes few major changes. It started really well but, got very depressing very soon.

    We started watching SVOI with great interest. It became the highest rate singing show scoring over Sa Re Ga Ma and India Idol but, then, it quickly went downhill. They kept changing the rules after they had already started the show. It got really bad with all that Toshi and Wild card farce and by adding three more contestant and by the time of the finals show had lost much of its charm.

    We have following complains/suggestions for SVOI:

    1. If you really care for singing talents, give half of the power to judges like the judges at “Nach Baliye” have. Else, don’t cry false tears when someone like Toshi or Abhas gets out.

    2. In place of choosing one winner, choose two winners: one male and one female. Let males compete with males and females with females. This will make show far more interesting.

    3. Kick Abhijeet and Alka out and keep only music directors and other as judge. Abhijeet seems jealous of male singers with good voice, like Harshit and Alka seems jealous of jazzy female singers Sumitra. This jealousy clearly shows and spoils the show big-time.

    Maybe, consider only appointing music directors or appoint singers like Asha Bhosle, Hariharan, someone who has risen over this singer-to-singer jealousy.

    I think with these simple changes, SVOI can become really popular and can become a real vehicle for discovering and promoting true talents.

    The Chotte Ustad show is going to be a damp squib. I was missing Ishmeet terribly yesterday in Voice of India. Actually I dint use to watch Voice of India, i was interested in Voice of Ishmeet only.
